Local editor
For a plain HTML site with no build step, the local editor opens the folder on your computer and writes every save straight into the files. It can replace photos too.
Start it
npx github:jefvandegraaf/edit-static local ./my-site
Then open http://127.0.0.1:8450/. It only listens on your own computer.
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
--port 8450 | Use another port |
--commit | Commit each save, with any photos it uploaded, to the folder's git repo |
--push | Commit and push each save, so a host that deploys from the repo publishes it |
Photos
Click any image to replace it or describe it.
- Big photos are resized to at most 2400 pixels wide and re-saved as JPEG or PNG.
- Re-saving removes camera details, including the GPS location your phone stored in the file.
srcsetand<picture>sources are removed, so the new photo is the one that shows, andwidthandheightare updated.- New photos go into
images/uploadsin your site's folder. - The same box asks what the photo shows. That description, the alt text, is read aloud by screen readers and used by Google, so describe what's in the picture.
What gets written
Only the inside of each element you changed. Indentation, comments, class names and line endings everywhere else stay byte for byte, so your git history shows exactly what changed.
