Editing guide
A page to send to whoever fixes the words on your site. You need the staging address and the password, nothing else.
Open the staging address with ?edit on the end, for example https://staging--your-site.netlify.app/?edit. Enter the password and press Edit. The browser stays signed in for 30 days.
Change the words
- Hover the page: everything you can change gets a dashed blue outline. Headings, paragraphs, buttons and links all work.
- Click and type. Changed words turn red until they're saved.
- Links and buttons don't open while you're editing, so you can click a button to change its label.
- Pasted text arrives as plain text, so another site's styling never comes along.
- Enter adds a line break on plain HTML pages. On sites built with React, Enter finishes the edit.
- Esc finishes the edit you're in.
The bar at the bottom
- Page menu: jump to another page of the site.
- Edit and Preview: Preview shows the page as it was before your unsaved changes, so you can compare. Edit brings your changes back.
- Discard: throws away every unsaved change on this page.
- Save all: saves every change on this page at once. Ctrl+S or Cmd+S does the same.
- Log out: ends editing in this browser.
What the messages mean
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| Saved. Publishing... | Your changes are on their way into the site's code. |
| Published. Live in about a minute. | They're in the code. The staging site shows them after its next deploy, about a minute later. |
| 1 not saved: ... | One change couldn't be written. The text keeps a red dashed outline; hover it to read why. What can be edited explains each reason. |
| This page was changed elsewhere. Reload to get the latest. | Someone else saved this page first. Reload and make your change again. Nothing was overwritten. |
Your changes go to the staging site. The site owner decides when they go to the live site.
